Welcome to working
with pages and blended data in reports
in Google Looker Studio. After watching this video, you will be able to
configure page settings, add new pages and
navigate between pages, and blend data from
multiple tables. In this first demo, we'll look at changing
page settings. When in edit mode in
Google Lookers Studio, you can configure the
settings of the current page, either by right-clicking
on the blank part of the Canvas and choosing
current page settings, or you can select it from
the page menu in the ribbon. From here, on the style tab, you can configure the canvas's background color and dimensions. You can choose a
ready-made canvas size or create a custom
size of your own. For now, we'll switch the
canvas back to auto-size. Typically, as you add more
visualizations to your report, you will need more pages in your report to contain
and present them. Next, let's look at how to add new pages and how to
navigate between them. To add a new page
to your report, you can either use
the main toolbar, or you can select page in the main menu and then new page. You can also see that there are keyboard shortcuts for
many common operations. For example, this
one is control + M After creating an
initial second page, you will find that the add page button has been removed from the toolbar and replaced with page navigation buttons instead. You can use this to navigate between multiple report pages. You can also use
the report pages pane on the right to
switch between your pages. Alternatively, you can use the numbered circles on the far left to do the same thing. To add more pages
after the second page, you can now use the
page menu as before, or use the add page icon
below the report pages pane. To rename a page, you simply
click the Ellipses button, that's the three dots, to the right of any
untitled page to choose rename and enter a new
name for the page. There will be occasions where you will have data spread across multiple different tables that you would like to
use in a report. Looker Studio allows you
to combine these pieces of data together using the
blend data feature. Let's review the steps to blend data from multiple tables. In Looker Studio, you do this by creating a relationship
between the datasets. First, you need to add and
upload multiple datasets. We'll upload the first dataset. Then add it to the report. Then we'll upload
the second dataset and add that to the report also. Let's now add a column chart to display the quantity
sold by gender. In the left pane, we'll ensure that we have
page 2 selected. Then we'll add a column chart and place it on the
canvas at the top left. Google Looker Studio will select a data table
automatically, but we can ignore that for now. Then having added a chart, we'll click blend data in the charts properties
pane on the right. When you select to
blend your data, a blend data window opens
at the bottom of the page, which enables you to
join another table. You then need to configure the join relationship
between the two tables. Here, you determine
how the data rows from the two tables should be joined and how they
relate to each other. In other words, which
field is common to both? In this case, that common
field is cust_ID. Then we'll add gender
as a new dimension. Then we select configure join
to create the relationship. Here is where we choose the
type of join, in this case, a left outer join, and we'll accept the
cust_ID field as the default join condition. The blend data
window will display the updated join configuration,
and we'll save that. The data will now be
blended in the background. The charts properties
pane will now show blended data as the data
source for your chart, and the chart will
now display data that comes from two
different data sources. To show that, we'll replace the quantity sold dimension
with the gender dimension. When the column chart updates, it now displays the gender data. In this video, you learned that you can configure page
settings such as dimensions, background, color, and
the size of the canvas. You can add multiple pages to your reports and
navigate between them, and you use the
blend data feature to combine multiple
data tables together.
